Woodard Wins Pole Vault At Niswonger Invitational

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Mitchell Pope won the shot put for the second straight week and hit the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships provisional qualifying mark for the second time in as many tries to lead NC State at East Tennessee State's Niswonger Foundation Invitational Jan. 20-21. Pope won the event with a toss of 59-2 and he also set a career best in the weight throw with a fourth place finish at 57-1.5.
Tabitha Woodard won the pole vault with a mark of 11-5.75 and Teresa Reed cleared 10-11.75 to tie for second place. Laila Thomas and Mattie Bethea both cleared 5-5 to tie for second place in the high jump. Shannelle Cross reached 17-9.50 in the long jump as the runner-up in the unseeded event. Brie Ward outdid her career best in the weight throw for the second straight week, this time with a mark of 51-7, good for fifth place.
Chris Crawford was the runner-up in the shot put with a career best 53-7.75 and also took fifth place in the weight throw with a mark of 54-7.25. Dexter Adams reached 24-1.5 to place fifth in the long jump.
