DURHAM, N.C. - The NC State volleyball team lost 3-0 at Duke Sept. 30 in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Wolfpack, 6-5 overall and 0-3 ACC, showed a spark in the first game and regained some momentum in the third game, exchanging the lead with the Blue Devils (9-3, 3-1 ACC) several times and staying close with some fluid play and confidence. Duke's red hot .352 attack percentage was too much for NC State to contain though, falling in three games 30-24, 30-17, 30-26.
"We took a big step tonight to get back on track," said NC State head coach Mary Byrne. "Stefani Eddins was phenomenal and Aiwane Iboaya played really well. We just need to get a few more things to go our way. We showed great hustle tonight. Our defense in games one and three was great. We had a little lull in the second game, but we took a big step to make the adjustment to get it back in game three, because we usually just fold after that."
Senior middle blocker Stefani Eddins led NC State with 16 kills, a .438 attack percentage and five blocks while freshman defensive specialist Keley Blakewood led the squad with 14 digs and junior setter Melissa Rabe had a team-best 34 assists and freshman outside hitter Aiwane Iboaya added 12 kills.
NC State returns to action tomorrow when it travels to Winston-Salem, N.C., to take on Wake Forest, 6:00 p.m. at Reynolds Gym.
