WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - NC State dropped a hard-fought conference volleyball match, 3-0, at Wake Forest Oct. 1. The Wolfpack, 6-6 overall and 0-4 in ACC play, kept each game close, but couldn't put away the Demon Deacons (8-5, 1-3 ACC), falling 30-20, 30-22, 30-19. NC State outblocked Wake Forest 12-7, but unforced errors doomed the Wolfpack as its hitting percentage dropped to .174 throughout the match.
"We're obviously disappointed with the outcome," said NC State head coach Mary Byrne. "The effort was there at times, but we have to eliminate the mental mistakes. We can't just have one or two people have an `on' night and expect to be successful."
Senior middle blocker Stefani Eddins led NC State with nine kills, a .318 attack percentage and six blocks. Junior setter Lyssa Ramirez came off the bench to lead the team with 15 assists and the 5-6 El Paso, Texas native also recorded a pair of block assists. Sophomore libero Andrea Bentley had a team-best 12 digs for the Pack.
NC State returns home next week to host three ACC matches in Reynolds Coliseum. The Wolfpack will take on North Carolina, Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 7:00 p.m., Miami on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7:00 p.m. and Florida State on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 5:00 p.m.
