Lewton Shoots Par 1st Round, Tied For 12th

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Stephen Lewton shot par in the first round of the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate Monday morning at the par 72 Shoal Creek Golf Resort in Birmingham, Ala., to lead the NC State men's golf team, which is in 11th place at 10 over with two rounds to go. The 54-hole tournament was scheduled to have two rounds Monday and a final round Tuesday, but the 15-team field ran out of daylight with three or four holes to go in the second round Monday evening. Second round play will continue Tuesday morning and will be immediately followed by the third round.
True freshman Darren Blair came in two over in the first round and is tied for 31st place. Garry Hill is one stroke behind Blair and tied for 41st. Jerry Richardson and Taylor Crosby are both five over after 18 holes.
LSU leads the field after the first round at four under, while Tigers Chris Wells, Beck Troutman and Notre Dame's Cole Isban are all tied for first place individually at three under. Complete results from the first round of the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate are available at www.UABSports.com.
