Women's Tennis Ends Stay at St. Mary's Classic

KNOXVILLE, TENN. - On Sunday, Sept. 18, the NC State women's tennis team completed its duties at the St. Mary's Classic in Knoxville, Tenn. With the three-day event drawing to a close, senior Barbara Orlay squared off against a tough ACC opponent in the Flight One singles title match, while several other team members vied for quality finishes in their draws.
Orlay fell to Wake Forest's Ashlee Davis in the Flight One championship in a highly-contested match, 6-3, 2-6, 6-5. With the loss, Orlay finished second in the top singles draw of the tournament.
Facing a conference foe, sophomore Julia Roach stepped up her game against Wake Forest's Christian Tara. Roach, the team MVP last season, completely controlled all facets of the match and quickly steered her way to a two set victory, 6-0, 6-1.
In Flight Five singles, freshman Alejandra Guerra collected third-place overall with a win over Stephanie Harris of Tennessee, 6-3, 6-1.
Freshman Neils Barringer grabbed third-place in Flight Six singles with a win over Lauren Tomory of Furman in a challenging three set bout, 7-5, 5-7, 6-2. In the same flight, junior Agustina Arechavaleta took fifth-place by taking down Purdue's Whitney Reys, 6-4, 6-0.
Junior Lauren Barry nabbed seventh-place in the seventh flight with a commanding win over Paula Schmidt of Purdue, 6-1, 6-0.
Next weekend, Friday, Sept. 23, through Sunday, Sept. 25, the Wolfpack women will host the Residence Inn North Wolfpack Invitational. The three-day even will be held at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Complex on the NC State campus.
