Mechereffe Runner-up At Charlotte National Open

INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. - Former NC State men's golfer Fernando Mechereffe tied for first place in the Tarheel Tour's rain-shortened Charlotte National Open at Charlotte National Golf Club. Mechereffe fired a 67, the best score of the final round, but lost a sudden death playoff to Steve Gilley. Mechereffe earned his largest check of the year by taking home $5,000 for second place.
Another former Wolfpack standout, Jason Moon, shot a final-round 70 to tie for third at 138 and earned $2,750. Justin Walters tied for ninth place and won $1,225. David Sanchez fired a 69 in the first round, tied for 11th place with another former NC State golfer Korky Kemp. They took home $1,040 each.
