Wood Semifinalist At Carolinas Amatuer Championship

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Banks Wood, a rising senior on the NC State men's golf team, went 3-1 in match play of the Amateur Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association to advance on the Chanticleer course of the Greenville Country Club in Greenville, S.C., July 13-17. Wood, who won the championship last year, advanced to the semifinals before falling this year.
As the defending champion, he earned a bye through the two rounds of stroke play and was awarded the top seed in match play. Wood defeated Andrew Smith of High Point, N.C., 2&1 in the round of 32 on Friday and Danny Gurley of Chapel Hill, N.C., 2&1 in the round of 16. On Saturday, Wood beat Walter Todd of Laurens, S.C., 2&1 in the quarterfinals before falling to eventual champion, Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C., 3&2.
