Walters Runner-Up At Southern Open

CONCORD, N.C. - Former NC State golfer Justin Walters tied for second place at the Southern Open July 15-17 to win $5,216.66. Firing a second round 65 and finishing 11 strokes under-par at the par 72 Carbarrus Country Club and the par 72 Kannapolis Country Club, Walters finished one stroke behind the winner.
Other former Wolfpack players in the tournament included David Sanchez, Garth Mulroy, Korky Kemp, Uly Grisette and Fernando Mechereffe. Sanchez tied for seventh place at eight-under and took home $1,875. Mulroy carded a three-under total to earn $673.33, Kemp and Grisette were both two-under, winning $595 each, and Mechereffe, who led the field in the first round with a 65, ended up even par and collected $470.
