Pack's Barwegen Strong at Open Water Nationals

Raleigh, N.C. - NC State swimmer Lindsay Barwegen finished fifth in the Open Water 10K at the United States Swimming Open Water Nationals held at Fort Myers, Fla., on June 5. Her time of 2:14.32 in the event was good for fifth overall, and was the fourth fastest american time in the women's race. She was even with the eventual winner for two laps of the course, and lead the race at one point. The Open Water Nationals is used to select the open water swimmers for the World Championships going to be held in Montreal this July.
Barwegen is a rising junior on the NC State swimming and diving team. She was the 2004 North Carolina Open Water Swimmer of the Year, and is also undefeated in the 5K competition and hopes to swim the 5K at the Open Water Nationals next summer. Barwegen is also a co-captain for the upcoming 2005-06 season for the Wolfpack.
