Roth Runs Qualifying Mark In 5K At Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. - For the second track meet in as many weeks Mitchell Pope hit an NCAA Regional Championship qualifying mark in the shot put. The sophomore thrower for the NC State track & field team finished second with a 59-1 1/2 in the opening day of the Raleigh Relays hosted by the Wolfpack at Paul Derr Track on the NC State campus. Later that evening Wesley Smith placed fourth in the 5,000m with a qualifying time of 14:13.40.
Pope also competed in the discus throw along with Chris Crawford, who reached 50-4 in the shot put for seventh place. Eric Hoverstad finished fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 15-3. Dexter Adams reached 23-0 1/2 in the long jump to take sixth place and Antwan Graves ran in the 400m hurdles.
Bryce Ruiz just missed the qualifying mark in the 5,000m with a time of 14:20.31 to take 10th place and Chris Kollar finished in 14:32.54. Patrick Chesar posted a 15:04.44 in a different section of the event and Lance Hall ran it in 15:06.57.
In the sprints, Omar Wells ran a 49.26 in the 400m, Armand Quenum finished in 50.01 and LT Dickens also competed. Matt Minnick ran in the 100m dash for the Pack.
On the women's side, Kristina Roth qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships with a time of 16:42.94 in the 5,000m to take third place. Sara Powell and Michelle Popple both ran the 5,000m as well. Kelly Brown, Magin Kebert, Angelina Blackmon and Julia Lucas won the 4x1500m Relay for NC State with a time of 18:20.44.
Joya Rodgers took 10th place in the preliminaries of the 100m with a time of 14:13.40 to qualify for Saturday's finals. Cassandra Williams also ran the 100m. Trellanie Green ran a 59.21 in the 400m and finished ahead of teammates Tajaron Lewis, Chapin Payne and Ayisha Beavers.
Laila Thomas cleared 5-5 in the high jump to take ninth place and she also ran the 100m hurdles. Kelly Smoke and Brie Ward both competed in the discus throw.
