NC State sprinter Cullen Jones earned his first All-American honor with a 19.63 50 freestyle time at day one of the 2005 NCAA Men's Swimming Championships. He unofficially split the second leg of the 200 freestyle relay with a 19.19, with Dan Velez, Keven Velleca and Kevin Devine swimming the other three legs. That team finished 17th, just missing a scoring time. Jones will swim in the finals in tonight's 50 freestyle, and the championships run through Saturday, Mar. 26 in West Lafayette, Ind.
"It is exciting to have Cullen earn his first All-American honors," sprint coach Chad Onken remarked. "The 200 freestyle swam strong, and were very close to swimming a scoring time. This is a good start for what should be a great weekend for Wolfpack swimming."
