Gymnastics Notches Season High Score

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The NC State gymnastics team scored a season-high 193.025 at the annual Governor's Cup held at North Carolina Saturday afternoon. The Pack (7-2) narrowly missed out on taking first, as NC State finished second to the host Tar Heel's 193.225. Maryland was third (192.425) and Towson (191.850) took fourth. NC State had strong efforts on three of the four events, but did not register a score higher than 9.625 on beam, and only had a team score of 46.725.
NC State performed well on vault, having three scores of at least 9.8, and a team score of 48.900. Sophomore Rachel Katz won her third vault title in the Pack's first four meets this season, as Katz scored a 9.875 to bring home the first place finish. Junior Kylah Bachman scored a 9.825 to tie for third, while freshman Leigha Hancock had a 9.8 for seventh.
The Pack performed even better on bars, notching a team score of 48.950 with three scores of at least 9.85. Freshman Heather Zolton narrowly missed her second straight title on bars, as she scored a 9.875 for a second place finish. Bachman and sophomore Amanda Jones each recorded a 9.85 and tied for third behind Zolton.
NC State had trouble on beam, only coming away with a team score of 46.725. The Pack's top score was a 9.625 by Jones for seventh place. Senior Andrea Petrocelli added a 9.55 for ninth place.
Senior Cori Goldstein earned yet another title on floor this season, with a 9.775. Goldstein has won the past two floor titles for NC State, and has won floor in three of the four meets this year. Bachman was close behind in second with her 9.75. Hancock placed ninth with a 9.675.
The NC State gymnastics team will return to Reynolds Coliseum this Friday, February 11, for the annual Hearts Invitational to compete against George Washington, Iowa and William & Mary. The meet will begin at 7:00 p.m.
