Wolfpack Women's Tennis Drills Gardner-Webb 6-1

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State women's tennis team increased its winning streak to seven straight with a 6-1 victory over Gardner-Webb Sunday evening at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center. The longest win streak for the Wolfpack since 1999, one more victory in a row will tie the school record of eight consecutive wins set in 1995 and repeated in 1998. NC State won two matches Sunday, beating Coastal Carolina 6-1 as a prelude to handing Gardner-Webb a loss by the same score.
The Wolfpack swept doubles play and then won its first four singles matches in straight sets securing the win and played the final two singles matches in pro sets. Danielle Stadelmann and doubles partner Agustina Arechavaleta won 8-2 at No. 1. Stadelmann, also playing No. 1 in singles, defeated Melissa DeJong 6-2, 6-1, while Archavaleta shutout Carol Pancia 6-0, 6-0.
Elin Stahl Johansson blanked the Bulldogs' Molly Hoeffner at No. 2 singles and teamed up with Julia Roach to win No. 2 doubles 8-2. Roach picked apart Monica Walser 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Carmen Torres, playing No. 5 singles for NC State, handed Sara Zirnheld a 8-3 loss in singles and Torres paired with Allison Barry for a 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
Krystina Sigmon earned the lone victory for Gardner-Webb, defeating Taylor Parker 9-7 at No. 6 singles.
NC State improves to 7-1 with the win and Gardner-Webb falls to 0-9 with the loss. The Wolfpack returns to action next week, when it travels to the Golden State to play at UC-Santa Barbara on March 6 and at Cal. State Northridge on March 8.
