Cullen Jones Wins Third Individual ACC Championship on Thursday

ATLANTA, Ga. - NC State men's swimming and diving is in sixth after two days of competition in the 200 ACC Championships, with Cullen Jones winning his second straight 50 freestyle with a NCAA qualifying time of 19.61, the fifth fastest time in school history. Jones has three medals in the last two years, winning the 50 free and 100 free a year ago. He won a medal in the 200 medley relay on Wednesday night, as the Wolfpack set an ACC, championship, school and pool record in the event. The championship runs through Saturday in Atlanta, Ga.
Jones wasn't done yet, as he is now a member of the fastest 200 free relay team in school history after a second place finish with a time of 1:19.79, a NCAA `B' cut. Kevin Velleca, Steve Cowling and Kevin Devine were the other four swimmers to make up the relay. Devine split his leg in 20.02, while Jones turned in his second straight fast time as the anchor with a 18.76.
Virginia finished the second day of the 2005 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Championship in first place with a total of 248 points. Florida State is second after seven events scored with 206 points, while North Carolina is third with 180.5 points. Georgia Tech stands in fourth with 158 points, Clemson is fifth (146), NC State is sixth (130), Virginia Tech is seventh (95.5), Maryland is eighth (92), Duke is ninth (71) and Miami is tenth (37).
