Wolfpack Women's Swimming Wraps Up ACC Championship

ATLANTA, Ga. - NC State closed the 2005 ACC Championship with another season best time in a relay, and Lindsay Barwegen finished sixth in the 1650 freestyle to pace the Wolfpack. NC State finished eighth in the ACC Championship, securing 194.5 points in the four day event. The women's swimming and diving team (6-5, 2-4) had a successful season, tying for the most wins in a single season over the past five years.
Barwegen swam a 16:40.96 to garner 13 team points in the 1650 freestyle, and added another 11 with an eighth place finish in the 200 butterfly `A' final. She swam a 2:07.36, after her prelim time of 2:03.71 placed in the top-10 of the conference.
Seniors Laura Cutler (2:05.89) and Catherine Parks (2:05.63) swam in the 200 butterfly as well in their final ACC Championship.
In the 200 yard backstroke, Jess Koenig finished 22nd with a time of 2:05.43. Kerry Whitson finished 15th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.98.
In the 200 yard breaststroke, Halle Kiehlmier finished 12th (2:19.57), Erin Trau 17th (2:22.93) and Lindsay Baskwell finishedd 22nd at 2:25.17.
The 400 free relay team of Amy Baskwell, Whitson, Shannon Brewer and Parks swam a 3:29.63 to top the previous NC State season high by three seconds.
Maryland tallied 655 points in winning the Championship, while Virginia placed second with 590.5 points. North Carolina finished the meet in third place with 491 points, Florida State in fourth with 433, Virginia Tech in fifth with 357.5, Georgia Tech in sixth with 286.5, Clemson in seventh with 219, NC State in eighth with 194.5, Duke in ninth with 180 and Miami in tenth with 176.
