NC State Softball Falls to Ohio State

BOCA RATON, Fla. - NC State (11-7) lost a tight 2-0 contest to Ohio State on Saturday, Feb. 19 at the FAU Classic in Boca Raton, Fla. The Buckeyes improved to 2-1 on the season, despite a strong outing from Abbie Sims. Sims allowed just two runs (one earned) in a complete game, but the Wolfpack offense couldn't score for the third time in seven games.
Jennifer Patterson and Heather Gelbard singled for NC State.
Ohio State took a 1-0 lead in the third inning, as Nycole Koyano led off the inning with a walk before stealing second base. After a groundout moved Koyano to third, Megan Schwab singled to right field to plate Koyano.
The Buckeyes moved ahead 2-0 lead in the sixth, getting its second run off of a leadoff walk as well. Schwab walked and scored on a single by Juarez and an error by Blair Harkey.
Jennifer Patterson broke up the perfect game with one out in the fifth, as she singled through the right side off of Jamee Juarez (1-1). Gelbard snapped a 2-for-19 slump with a single to the left side with two outs in the sixth, but Lee Hasper flied out to center field to end the inning.
Abbie Sims (4-3) took the loss, despite allowing only one earned run and scattering six hits while striking out four. Sims has lost three straight decisions after starting the season 4-0, but she has allowed only four earned runs in the three losses.
