Wolfpack Break School Record In DMR

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - NC State broke a nine-year-old school record in the women's distance medley relay Friday night at the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Wolfpack finished second in the final event of the second day of competition with a time of 11:39.50. NC State scored in five events and set 14 personal records at North Carolina's Eddie Smith Fieldhouse. Chris Kollar, Courtney Patterson, Joya Rodgers, Angelina Blackmon, Jennifer Boyd and Magin Kebert qualified for the finals tomorrow, while Dexter Adams took fourth place in the long jump.
Adams just missed all-conference honors with his leap of 23-11 and he also competed in the 200m preliminaries, running a 22.79.
Kollar ran a 4:14.52 in the mile preliminaries, the Wolfpack's best time of the season, taking sixth place and qualifying for the finals tomorrow. Bryce Ruiz ran a personal best 4:20.05 in the mile prelims. Wesley Smith finished fifth in the 5,000m with a time of 14:33.56. John Crews came in ninth with a time of 14:52.20, while John Henderson ran a 15:04.89, Colin Cronin and Lance Hall also competed in the 5,000m.
Antwan Graves set a personal record in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles, finishing 13th at 8.32. Eric Hoverstad cleared 15-5 in the pole vault to tie for seventh place. Michael Hill placed 10th in the long jump with a career-best leap of 23-1 ¾.
Brian Clark led the Wolfpack sprinters with a 7.06 in the 60m preliminaries. Matt Minnick ran a personal best 7.07, Jimmie Sutton, III ran a 7.14 and Miguel Scott finished in 7.20. Minnick also competed in the 200m prelims, clocking a 23.02, while DaJuan Morgan ran a 23.11. Kevin Davis finished 10th in the 400m preliminaries at 50.11, while Omar Wells ran it in 50.44, a personal record. Armand Quenum and LT Dickens also competed in the 400m prelims.
On the women's side, Patterson and Rodgers finished sixth and seventh respectively in the 60m preliminaries, qualifying for Saturday's finals. Patterson ran a 7.58 and then turned in a 25.42 in the 200m preliminaries. Rodgers recorded a career-best 7.59 in the 60m before running a career-best 25.82 in the 200m prelims. Cassandra Williams also competed in both the 60m and 200m prelims, while Trellanie Green ran the 200m as well.
The Wolfpack qualified three for the mile with Blackmon running a career-best 4:52.95 for fifth place in the preliminary, Kebert posting a career-best 4:54.01 for ninth place and Boyd coming in 10th with a career-best 5:00.68. Kelly Brown ran a career-best 5:09.40 for 12th place in the mile preliminary, Michele Popple ran a career-best 5:09.99 and Leslie Jimison competed in the mile run as well. Ginger Wheeler, Erin Swain and Josianne Lauber placed ninth, 10th and 11th respectively in the 5,000m, as Wheeler ran a career-best 17:10.28, Swain ran a career-best 17:22.65 and Lauber posted a 17:28.10. Abigail Nelkie competed in the 5,000m as well.
Mattie Bethea placed sixth in the high jump, clearing 5-5, while Laila Thomas came in ninth with a mark of 5-3 and Charlotte Diuguid made 5-1. After six events the NC State men are in sixth place and the Wolfpack women are in eighth. The ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships resume tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. for the final day of competition.
