A couple of jumpers lead the men's squad, as Dexter Adams (Fr., Greensboro, N.C.) hit the NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 24-4 1/2 in the long jump last week at the Virginia Tech Challenge, a leap that ranks second in the ACC and 19th in the country. Michael Hill (Jr., Marion, N.C.) cleared 6-8 3/4 in the high jump last week at Virginia Tech, which ties for the fourth best mark in the ACC. Mitchell Pope (So., Hudson, N.C.) posted the eighth best mark in the ACC last week at Virginia Tech in the Shot Put, 56-10 1/2, while Chris Crawford (So., Jacksonville, N.C.) notched the league's ninth best mark in the Weight Throw last week at Virginia Tech with a toss of 54-9 1/4. Chris Kollar (R-Fr., Strongsville, Ohio) owns the ACC's fifth-fastest time this season in the 3,000m and intends to score points this weekend, along with some of his fellow distance runners. The Wolfpack should do well in the relay events as well.
On the women's side, Renee Gunning (Sr., Perkasie, Pa.) leads a pack of distance runners that look to take up some spots on the medal stand this weekend. Gunning posted an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 16:06.37 in the 5,000m two weeks ago at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational, which ranks first in the ACC this season and sixth in the country. She also ran an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 9:22.86 in the 3,000m at that same meet in New York, which ranks third in the ACC. Half of the ACC's top ten times in the 3,000m this season belong to Wolfpack runners, as Julia Lucas (So., Charlotte, N.C.), Kristina Roth (So., Celina, Ohio), Magin Kebert (Fr., West Lafayette, Ind.) and Erin Swain (Sr., Fairfax Station, Va.) all look to score points for NC State at the ACC Championships.
Courtney Patterson (So., Fayetteville, N.C.) and Joya Rodgers (So., Charlotte, N.C.) have top 10 times in the ACC this season for the 60m Dash, which they aim to improve upon at the ACC Championships and place high in. Returning All-ACC thrower, Kelly Smoke (Sr., Durham, N.C.), wants to improve upon her marks in both the Shot Put and Weight Throw this weekend, both of which she has her name listed among the league's top 10 this season and hopefully repeat in All-ACC honors. The Wolfpack also could make some noise in the pentathlon and high jump, as Mattie Bethea (Fr., Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Laila Thomas (So., Jacksonville, N.C.) have both posted top ten scores this year in the ACC.
