Wolfpack Women's Swimming and Diving Defeats Richmond

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Wolfpack women's swimming and diving team (6-5, 2-4 ACC) defeated Richmond 153.5-146.5, on Sunday, Jan. 30 in the final home meet for nine Wolfpack seniors. Sophomore Halle Kiehlmier and junior Molly Culberson each won two events, with sophomores Melissa Jamerino and Kerry Whitson each winning and event. NC State's 400 freestyle relay team took first in that event as well in the final regular season meet for the women. The ACC Championships are Feb. 16-19.
Kiehlmier won both breaststroke events, winning the 100 breast in a time of 1:05.78 and the 200 breast with a 2:20.90, the top-time in the 200 for NC State this season.
Culberson won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions, improving her team high scores in each event. Her 1-meter performance of 302.63 is fourth in the conference, and her 3-meter score of 327.38 is third.
NC State swept the top-3 times in both diving events, with Lindsay Lowell and Abby Griffith coming in second and third, respectively, in the 1-meter and Lowell and Shelbey Kosova finishing 2-3 in the 3-meter, respectively.
Jamerino won the 50 free with a time of 24.80, her first event win of the season.
Whitson continued her strong season, winning the 500 free with a time of 5:02.41.
The women's relay teams recorded the clinching points, taking first and second in the 400 freestyle relay to secure 15 points and the victory.
The Wolfpack's six wins is tied for the most wins under head coach Brooks Teal, whose squads won six in 2001 and 2003.
