RALEIGH, N.C. - Bolstered by the best start since 1988, the NC State men's tennis team moved up in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings to No. 65. The Wolfpack (6-0) moved up ten spots since the preaseason rankings came out, and is fresh off of defeating No. 58 Univ. of Louisiana-Lafayette, 5-2 on Sunday, Jan. 30. William Noblitt is one of 11 singles players to remain undefeated for the Wolfpack, as he stands at 6-0 on the season. Nick Cavaday, last week's ACC Player of the Week, and Andre Iriarte are both 4-0 on the season.
NC State is ranked for the first time since the 1999 season, when the Wolfpack finished the season ranked 49th. It was also the last season that NC State made the NCAA Tournament. The current six-game win streak is also the best streak since the 1999 season, as the program is now under the capable hands of third-year head coach Jon Choboy, and long-time assistant Matt Halfpenny.
Four players, Val Banada, Ben Zink, Will Shaw and Mason Schermerhorn have each posted 3-0 records in singles this spring. As a team, NC State has won 34 singles matches, losing only twice at No. 1 singles where No. 84 Conor Taylor has battled two quality opponents, including No. 71 Coduneanu from ULL.
Updated singles and doubles rankings will be released on Feb. 22 by the ITA.
