After spending its last three games on the road, NC State returns to the confines of Reynolds Coliseum for a two-game stretch that includes one of two remaining non-conference games against George Washington (6-3). NC State will look to protect its 15-game non-conference winning streak going when it hosts the Colonials. The Wolfpack (8-3) is 5-0 at home this season. NC State is 7-2 all-time against the Colonials and is 3-0 at home. The game can be heard live on WKNC FM 88.1 with Patrick Kinas. Fans are encouraged to bring cans of food for donation to the Food Bank of North Carolina. For each set of three cans donated, Wolfpack fans will receive free admission to the game.
NC State is looking to avenge a road loss at George Washington last season that ended the Pack's six-game winning streak over the Colonials and seven-game winning streak on the season to that point. During its three-game road trip, the Wolfpack finished 2-1 with wins over Arkansas State and then unbeaten Brigham Young on its home floor. The loss came at the hands of No. 22 Utah. With the defeat, NC State has won six of its last seven contests and has been victorious in all five home games entering Friday's meeting with the Colonials. The Pack has four players averaging double figures, led by senior Tiffany Stansbury's 15.0 ppg. With Stansbury leading the Pack in scoring, sophomore Khadijah Whittington is keeping busy on the boards. She is averaging 8.4 rpg, which is fifth in the ACC and she currently leads the conference with 3.64 offensive rebounds a game. The Roanoke, Va. native is also boasting a 10.9 ppg scoring average in 26.1 minutes. Stansbury's field goal percentage was ranked 21st in the nation as of Dec. 19 at 60.4 percent. She is currently shooting 59.0 percent from the floor. The NC State roster has been fully active with nine of its 13 players averaging 10 or minutes per game.
After an up and down start to the season, George Washington has found some consistency. The Colonials have won their last four games after falling to No. 1 Tennessee 59-43 on Dec. 7. GW is a quick team that wracks up an average of 11.0 steal per game, but also is a bit sloppy offensively, posting 18.8 turnovers each 40 minutes. The team hasn't played since Dec. 20, when it hosted Yale and demolished the Bulldogs, 88-37. Three players are averaging double figures for Coach McKeown, led by a duo of sophomore guards, Kimberly Beck and Sarah-Jo Lawrence. Beck leads the team with 11.9 ppg, while Lawrence is close behind at 11.8 ppg. Beck is also leading the squad in assists with 5.8 per game. Senior forward Jessica Simmonds has been a work horse around the basket as she rips down 9.4 rpg and has a team-high 10 blocks.
The ACC season is on tap next for NC State. The Pack will have one remaining non-conference game when it hosts Dartmouth on Jan. 22, but until then it is all conference play. Virginia Tech will visit Reynolds Coliseum on Monday, Jan. 2 to kick off the ACC slate at 7 p.m. The Hokies are unbeaten at 10-0 and are one of three ACC teams and one of eight in the nation as of Dec. 27. North Carolina (11-0) and Duke (9-0) are also undefeated.
