Cullen Jones finished second at the US Open Swimming Championships in Auburn, Ala. with a 22.95 in the 50 meter freestyle. The senior from Irvington, New Jersey, was one of the top seeds in the event after his World University Games record swim of 22.17 this summer. Jones, who is the two-time defending ACC Champion in the 50 freestyle for the Wolfpack, was impressive again, as his time was an Olympic Trials time for the 50 freestyle.
Jones currently sits first in the NCAA in the 50 yard freestyle, swimming a 19.35, the second fastest time in school history. Jones has posted two amazing relay splits in the 50 free over the last two seasons, splitting the anchor leg in 18.69 in the 200 medley relay (an ACC record in the event) and a 18.62 in the 200 freestyle relay at the Terrapin Cup Invite in November, one of the fastest swims in NCAA history.
Jones and the Wolfpack will return to the pool on January 7 against South Carolina.
