ATLANTA - The Wolfpack Women's Swimming and Diving team kept things close against perennially tough Georgia Tech dropping the meet 137-106.
The Yellow Jackets won eight out of 13 events to hand the Wolfpack their second conference loss and drop the Pack to 1-2 in the conference, 2-2 on the young year.
NC State's Lindsay Barwegen slashed over four seconds off of her conference top ten 1000 yard freestyle time, making her best time 10:04.90 and keeping her undefeated in the event this season.
Jess Koenig also continued her string of impressive performances winning the 400 yard Individual Medley in convincing fashion, posting a time of 4:29.89, a time that should get her into the conference's top ten in the event. She also swam second in the 100 backstroke event, just getting edged out by teammate Erica Smith who touched with a time of 59.01 seconds, defeating Koenig by just 23 hundredths of a second.
Veteran diver Molly Culberson continued her mastery on the diving boards, winning both the one-meter and three-meter events. Culberson remains undefeated on the season in both events, and her score of 303.67 in the three-meter event, although down from her high score of 333.52 on the year, was still more than 20 points better than her nearest competition at the meet.
State's relay teams also showed signs of improvement, and put up two second place finishes in the relay events. The 400 Medley Relay team of Koenig, Martha Marino, Lucy Lindsey, and Shannon Brewer posted their best time of the season, 4:00.17, and the 400 Freestyle team of Erica Smith, Amy Baskwell, Barwegen, and Kerry Whitson stroked out a strong time of 3:34.89. Whitson, Lindsey, and Baskwell also picked up some big points for the Pack finishing second, third, and fourth respectively in the 200 freestyle event.
