RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State volleyball team dropped a hard fought match, 3-1 to Maryland Friday afternoon in Reynolds Coliseum. Senior outside hitter Casey Wyatt led the Wolfpack (7-22, 1-20 ACC) with a career high 16 kills, hitting .261 with seven digs and two blocks, but the ACC's top team (27-3, 18-3 ACC) proved to be too much for NC State, winning 30-32, 30-22, 30-22, 30-21.
Trading points with the Terrapins throughout game one, the Wolfpack tied the score 12 times as the lead changed hands nine times. Down 29-30, NC State rallied to take the final three points and win game one. The Wolfpack hung around in the second game until Maryland went on a 12-4 run to win the game and even the match 1-1. After trailing most of game three, NC State pulled to with two at 21-23, but the Terps snuffed the rally with a 7-1 run to finish the game. Tied at 16 in the fourth game, Maryland heated up again to run away with the game and the match.
Junior setter Lyssa Ramirez made her first career start and put up a career best 47 assists to go with three kills and a pair of blocks. Senior middle blocker Adeola Kosoko hit a team best .381 with 11 kills and tied for a team-leading seven blocks with fellow senior middle blocker Stefani Eddins. Kosoko moves into seventh place in school history with her 349 career blocks. Eddins chipped in 10 kills, hitting .219 and both she and Kosoko tied career highs with three solo blocks each. Sophomore libero Andrea Bentley led the team with 18 digs and two service aces.
NC State hit .202 as a team and out-blocked Maryland 14-9, but the Terrapins put away 77 kills to the Pack's 56. NC State returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 26, when it concludes the season with a 1:00 p.m. match versus Boston College in historic Reynolds Coliseum.
