Nov. 23, 2005
Fresh off of his second ACC Swimmer of the Week award this season, NC State swimmer Cullen Jones was named a College Swimming National Swimmer of the Week. Jones posted the fastest time in the NCAA this season in the 50 freestyle, swimming a 19.35, the second fastest time in school history. It was one of two individual titles, as he captured the 100 free in 44.16, the fastest time in the ACC. He helped four relay teams finish first, and split the freestyle anchor leg in one relay with an amazing 18.62, one of the three fastest NCAA splits ever. Jones and the Wolfpack men's swimming team will travel to South Carolina on Jan. 7, 2006 in its next meet.
Jones has won four ACC Championships (three individual, one relay) and has twice been named all-ACC and all-America. He won gold in the World University Games this summer, setting a games record with a 22.17 in the 50 meter freestyle, and was recently named to the US National Team.
