Cullen Jones continues to impress, this time setting a personal best time in the 50 freestyle with a 19.35 in the prelims of the Terrapin Cup Invite. The time is tied for the second fastest in school history, with only ACC record holder and Olympic Gold Medalist David Fox's 19.14 placing ahead of Jones. Jones' time broke the Maryland pool record as well, and is yet another record-breaking swim for him this season. The 19.35 time is the fastest in the NCAA this year, and he holds the top-two times nationally as his 19.87 is second quickest in the event.
The finals of the 50 freestyle are this evening in College Park, M.D.
Jones holds five of the top-10 50 freestyle times in school history, with Fox securing the other half. He already broke his own pool record at the Casey Natatorium on Oct. 28, swimming a 19.87, then the fastest time in the nation.
Jones, a two-time all-America and two-time All-ACC, has won three individual ACC Championships in his career and set a World University Games record with a 22.17 in the 50 meter freestyle this summer.
