Wolfpack Women's Swimming and Diving Falls to Hokies

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State Women's Swimming team fell to Virginia Tech 139-103 Friday night. The team still has much to be hopeful for thanks to impressive performances by seasoned veterans and surprising performances by young talent.
Freshman Lucy Lindsey placed first in the 200 free, posting a time of 1:53.04 and swam second in the 500 Free with a time of 5:03.35, giving her the tenth fastest 500 Free time in the conference.
Lindsey was not the only Wolfpack freshman to make an impressive showing at the meet, Lauren Cranston dropped 2.8 seconds off of her personal best 1000 freestyle time giving her a time of 10:30.58 and a third place finish. Another freshman Erica Smith improved her 100 back time by more than three tenths of a second swimming the opening leg of the 400 medley relay.
Wolfpack veterans had some great performances as well to lead the young squad. Junior Molly Culberson continued her domination of the diving boards winning both the one and three-meter events in convincing fashion. She improved on her already top score in the conference for the three-meter event, posting 333.52,
Junior Lindsay Barwegen improved on her already fourth place in the Conference in the 1000 yard freestyle event, finishing with a time of 10:09:54, just a half second off of her personal best. She also won the 200 Fly by shaving more than a second off her previous fast time for the year and placing her in sixth in the conference at 2:05.72.
Junior Jess Koenig took the 200 backstroke with the sixth fastest time in the conference, swimming a 2:04.66. She also won the 200 yard individual medley edging out Virginia Tech's Millie Campbell by eight tenths of a second. She also swam lead leg in the 400 medley relay and put up the ninth fastest 100 yard backstroke time in the conference, posting a time of 59.41.
The 400 yard freestyle relay team of Kendall Smith, Kathryn Creech, Lindsay Barwegen and Kerry Whitson also showed signs of improvement, slashing a 1.02 seconds off of last weeks effort at Duke and finishing in a time of 3:32.99.
