#11 Men's Soccer Earns Shutout Over Longwood

Raleigh, N.C. - The 11th-ranked NC State men's soccer team shutout visiting Longwood 2-0 Wednesday night at SAS Soccer Stadium. After a scoreless first half of action, the Pack (9-4-1) scored two second half goals and dominated the Lancers (3-9-2) in shots for the game, 21-4. Senior Bryant Salter scored the eventual game winner off a penalty kick in the 56th minute, and classmate Jorge Gonzalez made two saves for the shutout. NC State will next travel to No. 10 Duke for a Friday night contest.
The two squads went into the half deadlocked in a scoreless tie. The Pack was not without their chances in the first 45 minutes, as NC State out shot Longwood by a count of 10-0, including the first five shots all on goal. The Pack's best chance was when senior Aaron King's header hit the top crossbar with just seven minutes remaining. Lancers' keeper Brandt Youmans had a busy first half, recording seven saves.
NC State finally broke into the scoring column in the 56th minute. Freshman Jack Weedon played a ball along the sideline to Salter. Salter took one touch, then went into the Lancers' penalty box where he was fouled from behind. Salter converted the PK at the 55:29 mark for his fourth goal of the season.
NC State would add an insurance goal in the 81st minute. Sophomore Ernesto Di Laudo found King at the top of the 18-yard box. King then passed back to sophomore El Hadj Cisse who took a quick touch and fired his fourth goal of the season into the lower corner of the net at the 80:37 mark.
The Pack was without the services of two starting midfielders, senior John Queeley and junior Santiago Fusilier. Replacing them in the lineup and earning the starts were freshmen Alberto Ramos and Nathaniel Weiss.
NC State will have a quick turnaround and travel to No. 10 Duke this Friday night for a 7:00 contest.
