Reynolds Coliseum - Raleigh, N.C.
Coach Kay Yow * NC State
"This is a game we really would have liked to win. The team played great and on the defensive end I couldn't have asked for more. Offensively we struggled, and because of Duke's size we weren't able to penetrate to the basket. We couldn't maintain our offensive flow. To be down twelve points and then come back to take a one-point lead is great. We had the chance to win but they hit an incredible shot. It's a tough loss when you play this hard."
"It took Tiffany (Stansbury) almost three-fourths of the game to get her offensive rhythm down. In the last 10 minutes she got it together and started scoring for us, and we needed that. Once she could start scoring on the inside, then the outside really opened up for us."
On the defensive setup:
"We have a lot of confidence in our man defense, and when they got really close to the basket we looked at trapping them, especially (Monique) Currie. We really tried to play great position defense."
On the last shot:
"We knew they would be looking for (Monique) Currie and we wanted to try a little harder to keep it out of her hands. We just got sucked in a little too much and couldn't get out."
Marquetta Dickens * NC State * No. 12
"We had good defensive and offensive plays that really sparked us and we were able to just go from there.
Kendra Bell * NC State * No. 30
"I think we just tried to get a little more attack-minded and not be so passive."
Coach Gail Goestenkors - Duke
"This was a test. We played a really good defense today, which is not something you come across often so it was a good challenge."
On freshman Chante Black:
"Chante is coming along and she is going to be a great player. She has to learn this level of physical play, and in the first half she was struggling. In the second half she came out and did a great job for us."
Mistie Williams * Duke * No. 1
"We have got to be a much stronger team with our mental game. We have got to get the job done at practice so we can play that way in games."
