Wolfpack Competes At Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. - The NC State track & field teams were in action over the weekend, competing in the Clemson Invitational at Clemson's Indoor Track & Field Facility. Michael Hill (Jr., Marion, N.C.) was the runner-up in the triple jump, leading the Wolfpack, which had strong showings in the long jump, throwing events and high jump as well.
Hill tied a career best with a mark of 48-10.25 in the triple jump. He also placed fifth in the high jump, clearing 6-4.25 and reached a career-best 21-6.5 in the long jump for seventh place. Mitchell Pope (So., Hudson, N.C.) took fifth in the shot put with a heave of 55-10.5 and finished ninth in the weight throw with a career-best mark of 51-0.75. A.J. Davis (So., Durham, N.C.) reached 22-11 in the long jump to take fourth place, while Dexter Adams (Fr., Greensboro, N.C.) came in fifth at 22-8.
Christopher Crawford (So., Jacksonville, N.C.) placed 11th in the weight throw with a toss of 48-1.25 and finished 12th in the shot put with a mark of 45-5. Eric Hoverstad (Sr., Raleigh, N.C.) cleared 15-1.25 in the pole vault to place 11th. Brian Clark (Jr., Tampa, Fla.) ran a 22.25 in the 200m to finish sixth and DaJuan Morgan (Fr., Riviera Beach, Fla.) placed 12th at 22.89. Matt Minnick (So., Tallahassee, Fla.) took 17th in the 200m with a 23.33 and LT Dickens finished 18th with a 23.38. Clark ran a 6.98 in the 60m prelims, Kevin Davis (So., Southfield, Mich.) a 7.10, Minnick a 7.21 and Morgan ran a 7.34.
On the women's side, Mattie Bethea (Fr., Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Laila Thomas (So., Jacksonville, N.C.) tied for sixth in the high jump with a mark of 5-3.25. Bethea reached 17-11 in the long jump to place 12th and ran a 9.81 in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles. Thomas ran a 10.23 in the 60m hurdles prelims as well. Kelly Smoke (Sr., Durham, N.C.) placed eighth in the shot put with a toss of 43-0.75 and took ninth in the weight throw with a mark of 59-2.5.
Courtney Patterson (So., Fayetteville, N.C.) ran a 26.00 in the 200m to finish 14th, Joya Rodgers (So., Charlotte, N.C.) ran a 26.40 to take 18th and Trellanie Green (Fr., Fayetteville, N.C.) placed 20th with a 26.69. Rodgers also ran a 7.68 in the preliminaries of the 60m. Patterson ran a 7.71 in the 60m prelims and Cassandra Williams (Fr., Selma, N.C.) ran a 8.39. Green also ran a 1:01.33 in the 400m.
Vanessa Blaylock (Fr, Rock Hill, S.C.) ran a 1:03.60 in the 400m, Tajaron Lewis recorded a 1:06.50 and Laura Strother (So., Matthews) ran a 1:07.49. Whitney McGhee (So., Marshville, N.C.) reached 47-5 in the weight throw and 30-10.75 in the shot put, while Brie Ward (So., Stafford, Va.) hit marks of 46-0 in the weight throw and 33-8.75 in the shot put.
