Freshman outside hitter Emily Bertrand and junior middle blocker Adeola Kosoko recorded 14 and 11 kills respectively to lead the NC State volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over East Tennessee State Tuesday night at Reynolds Coliseum. The win moved the Wolfpack to 4-1 on the season, while the Buccaneers fell to 0-4.
NC State came out and dominated offensively in game one, finishing with a .300 team attack percentage compared to ETSU's .075. The Wolfpack would win that game by the score of 30-22. More of the same happened in game two, as NC State rallied to take the lead. But the Bucs would manage to creep back in and hang around shortly before the Wolfpack closed the door on any comeback opportunity, winning 30-20. East Tennessee State would make for a more competitive game three, but NC State still proved to be too much, as the Wolfpack sealed the sweep with a 30-27 victory.
In addition to the effort Bertrand and Kosoko gave, freshman setter Lauren Markowski dished out 40 assists, while freshman libero Andrea Bentley picked up 10 digs. Also stepping up defensively for the Wolfpack was junior middle blocker Stefani Eddins who finished with four block assists to go along with five kills off a .500 attack percentage.
The Bucs were led by middle blocker Katie Longden and right side Sara Scandiffio, who each finished with a team-high seven kills. Setter Brittany Kessel tallied up 23 assists, while also adding seven digs.
NC State now leaves the friendly confines of Reynolds Coliseum and hits the road for a non-conference tournament at Lehigh University this weekend. The Wolfpack will face Marist on Friday afternoon and then Columbia and Lehigh respectively on Saturday.
