Junior middle blocker Stefani Eddins and freshman outside hitter Emily Bertrand each finished with a match-high 11 kills to lead the NC State volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-27, 30-19, 30-24) victory over Marist at the Mountain Hawk Classic hosted by Lehigh University Friday afternoon. With the win, the Wolfpack now improves to 5-1 on the season, while the Red Foxes drop to 3-2 overall.
Two keys to NC State's success were its attack percentage and its defense at the net. On the match, the Wolfpack featured a .198 team attack percentage, impressively larger than the .045 of Marist, while also notching a 13-2 advantage in team total blocks over the Red Foxes. In addition to her offensive performance, Eddins also added a solo block and six block assists. Senior outside hitter Melanie Rowe picked up five kills to go with nine digs, two solo blocks and four block assists defensively.
Sophomore Sally Hanson led the Red Foxes with eight kills off a .190 attack percentage. In addition, freshman Christy Lukes tacked on another six kills and six digs.
NC State will continue play at the Mountain Hawk Classic on Saturday, as it faces Columbia at 10:30 a.m., and then Lehigh at 7:30 p.m.
