RALEIGH, N.C. - This weekend, three members of the Wolfpack women's tennis squad will compete in the William & Mary Invitational in Williamsburg, Va. Sophomore Agustina Arechavaleta, junior Virginia Romero and senior Danielle Stadelmann will all look to gain valuable preparation at the tournament for use in this upcoming season.
The first round of singles begins on Friday morning and each of the three Pack student-athletes will be in competition. Beginning with Flight C, Arechavaleta will take on Felice Lam of Virginia Tech. The other two Pack players will be squaring off in the Flight D bracket, with Romero taking on Kristen Carlin of Princeton while Stadelmann is pitted against Virginia's Lindsey Pereira. In doubles action, Arechavaleta and Stadelmann will face Lille Nzudie and Alizee Paradis of Marshall in the Flight B bracket. The first rounds of competition will take place Friday, with rounds two and three of all flights occurring Saturday. The championships and final placement rounds will take place on Sunday when the tournament comes to a close.
"We're excited that Danielle, Virginia and Agustina are a part of the William & Mary Invitational," said head coach Hans Olsen. "Each of them has been performing well in practice and other fall tournaments, so we are glad to be getting the extra practice for when the season officially starts in the spring. You can never have enough competition, and I am sure that this weekend will only help these three perform at a higher level."
After this weekend, don't expect Coach Olsen and the team to take a break. Members of the team will be competing in at least five different tournaments during the month of October. Early in the month, Barbara Orlay and Kristen Lam will head to Pacific Palisades, Calif. to compete in the ITA All-American Championships. Oct. 9-11, the Pack will take to New York City to compete in the USTA National Invitational. That tournament will be held exactly one month after the U.S. Open and will take place on the same courts. Beginning Oct. 15, the Pack will play host to over 15 schools as they open up the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center to host the Residence Inn Wolfpack Fall Invitational.
