RALEIGH, N.C. - After an impressive swimming season that saw Cullen Jones dominate in the water for NC State, it is no surprise that Jones has been named an All-American by USA Swimming. He posted a time of 23.08 in the finals of the 2004 Conoco Phillips United States Senior National Swimming Championships, after posting his lifetime best in the prelims with a 23.05. His time in the finals was good enough to make the top-seven in the 50 freestyle for the USA Swimming Men's All-American team.
"We are all very proud of the accomplishments that Cullen has produced in the pool," head coach Brooks Teal said. "He is becoming a great student-athlete here at NC State. Look for Cullen Jones to carry the momentum from his summer success into the 2004 - 2005 season. Cullen, along with his Wolfpack teammates, are excited to make this a special year for NC State Swimming and Diving."
Jones won two ACC Championships in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle events, before swimming his lifetime best in the United States Senior National Swimming Championship over the summer. He was an Olympic Trial Qualifier and was ranked in the top-80 in the world in the 50 free, and was the fourth fastest sophomore in the country in the event.
