CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Former NC State golfer Bowen Sargent was named the head men's golf coach at the University of Virginia on August 31. The assistant coach for the Volunteers the last three seasons, Sargent replaces Mike Moraghan as the Cavaliers' head coach, who accepted a nother position within the UVa athletics department.
Sargent, who graduated from NC State in 1992, was a professional golfer for nine years and is credited with eight profressional victories. A two-time All-American for the Wolfpack, Sargent was a two-time All-ACC selection. A member of NC State's 1990 ACC Championship squad, Sargent played in four NCAA championship finals.
NC State assistant athletic director and head men's golf coach Richard Sykes has three former players that have followed his footsteps into college coaching. Press McPhaul is the head coach at Vanderbilt, Sargent is now the head coach at Tennessee and Dickie Brewer is the assistant women's coach here at NC State.
