RALEIGH, N.C. -- After a competitive season that saw some impressive individual accomplishments, the NC State coaching staff has handed out postseason awards to the men's and women's swimming and diving team. Sophomore Cullen Jones was named the Dan Harrigan MVP, as the Olympic Trials qualifier won two ACC championships on the season. The women's MVP was freshman Rebecca Perry, who made her mark on the ACC as one of the top young sprinters.
Jones left Wednesday afternoon for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, which run July 7-14 in Long Beach, California. He won the ACC Championship in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events, as both times were the top times in each event on the season in the ACC. Both times also ranked in the top-10 all-time at NC State in the event.
Perry turned heads for her performance in the water during her freshman campaign, finishing third in the 100 Freestyle at the ACC Championship and posting the top times on the team in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events during the season.
The Willis Casey Coaches Award, presented to the players that lead the team in and out of the pool, was presented to Karen Burbella and Chris Nixon. For best performance, the Don Easterling Chime Award was handed out to the women's team in their win versus Clemson, and to Cullen Jones for his 100 freestyle showing at the ACC Championship.
The Amy Lepping Hardest Working Female Award went to Jessica Koenig, while the men's award, named after Pat Gavaghan, was given out to Brian Pursley.
The Beth Emory Most Improved Female Swimmer award went to co-recipients Lindsay Baskwell and Lola Woodworth, and the men's award, named after Peter Fogorassy was awarded to Seth Hoffman.
The John Candler Outstanding Diver award was also shared, between conference standouts Molly Culberson and Vitor Assuncao.
