NC State's Fernando Mechereffe was named to the All-ACC men's golf team Tuesday. The senior from Pelotas, Brazil has led the Wolfpack in 8 of 11 tournaments this season and has a team-best 72.7 stroke average. He also leads the team with 13 rounds at even, or under, par this season. NC State, which finished fourth at the ACC Championship April 16-18, will find out May 10 if and which NCAA Regional it has been chosen to, which will be played May 20-22.
A two-time Brazilian Amateur champion, Mechereffe (pronounced metch-er-ref-E) becomes the 39th Wolfpack men's golfer to earn All-ACC honors in the program's history. With 110 career rounds played, he needs one more round to tie Tim Clark for 11th place in school history. A business management major, Mechereffe will graduate this spring and looks to join a professional tour next year.
Wake Forest's Bill Haas was named the ACC Player of the Year, Roberto Castro from Georgia Tech was picked the ACC Rookie of the Year and Clemson's skipper Larry Penley was selected the ACC Coach of the Year.
