Horne Named All-America Scholar

Wesley Horne, a senior on the NC State men's golf team was named a Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Monday. The Wadesboro, N.C., native earns the honor for excelling both on the golf course and in the classroom. A textile and apparel major, Horne owns a 3.787 GPA.
Named the team's most improved player this season, Horne has played in 10 of 11 tournaments this year and ranks high on the squad with a 75.5 stroke average. Firing a three-over-par at the Puerto Rico Classic this fall, Horne tied for 24th place individually (out of 88) and helped lead the team to a sixth place finish out of 18 teams. He carded a four-over score at NC State's Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate to tie fo r 30th (of 81) and help lead the Pack to a fourth place (of 15 teams) finish. He is a dean's list student, scholar-athlete, ACC Academic Honor Roll member and a nominee for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
Horne becomes the 12th honoree from NC State, since the GCAA starting awarding Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars in 1987. Horne and the Wolfpack will be traveling to New Haven, Conn., next week to play in the NCAA East Regional Championship at the Yale Golf Course.
