CARY, N.C. - NC State finished fourth in the 2004 Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate at the MacGregor Downs Country Club on Saturday, April 10 in Cary, N.C. Duke won the team title by finishing -19 under par, while Wake Forest's Bill Haas, the country's number 1 golfer, finished first at -15. For NC State, senior Fernando Mechereffe finished 10th, carding a 70-71-73=214 as NC State turned in the fifth best team round on the day. The Wolfpack's Garry Hill fired back-to-back 69 to finish tied for 20th.
Duke University used a 280 in the first and final round, the second lowest team scores of the tournament, to finish a decisive first, 15 strokes ahead of Kansas, who had a three stroke lead on Duke heading into the final round.
Wake Forest finished sixth behind Haas, who tied a course record with his first round 64. He closed the tournament with rounds of 69 and 68 to take medalist honors by seven strokes over Aron Price of Georgia Southern.
The ACC Championships are next up for the ACC teams, as action gets under way at the Old North State next weekend.
