CLEMSON, S.C. - The 12th-ranked Clemson women's tennis team defeated #75 NC State on Saturday afternoon in Clemson by a score of 7-0. With the loss, NC State falls to 4-3 (0-1) while the Tigers improve to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Tigers won all three doubles matches to win the team doubles point. Clemson's 30th-ranked team of Daniela Alvarez and Alix Lacelarie defeated the Wolfpacks' Nandita Chandrasekar and Barbara Orlay by a score of 8-4 at flight one doubles. At the number two position, the Tigers' sixth-ranked team of Maria Brito and Julie Coin won an 8-1 decision over NC State's Vania Apodaca and Kristin Lam. Richele LeSaldo and Karen Rombouts of Clemson were victorious over Agustina Arechavaleta and Jennifer Jassawalla by a score of 8-5 at flight three.
In singles play, the Tigers' Coin, ranked eighth by the ITA, defeated Orlay by a score of 6-4, 6-2 at flight one. Alvarez (#51) won a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Lam at flight two, while Rombouts was victorious over Chandrasekar (7-6(4), 6-4) at flight three. At number four singles, Brito defeated Jassawalla by a score of 7-5, 6-2. Clemson's Ioana Paun won a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Apodaca at number five singles, while the Tigers' Silvia Gutierrez handed the Wolfpacks' Danielle Stadelmann a 6-2, 7-6(7) loss at flight six to complete the Clemson sweep.
NC State will play Georgia Tech on Sunday before returning to Raleigh.
