
NC State Gymnastics Finishes Third at EAGL Championships

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The No. 23 NC State gymnastics team finished third with a team score of 196.600 at the ninth annual East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championships held Saturday night at Pittsburgh. The Wolfpack (20-12) has now finished in the top-three in the conference seven of the league's nine years, and this year marked the third time NC State has placed third.
West Virginia won its fifth EAGL title with a meet record 197.050, followed by North Carolina in second with a 196.725. Host Pittsburgh took fourth with a 196.050, Maryland was fifth with a 196.025, defending champion New Hampshire placed sixth with a 195.950, Towson was seventh with a 194.650, and Rutgers was eight with a 192.475.
NC State scored its best team score on floor with a score of 49.325. The Wolfpack also performed well on both bars (49.300) and vault (49.200), but faltered on beam with a 48.775.
Junior Cori Goldstein was NC State's top performer on floor, scoring a 9.9 to finish in seventh place. Senior Alison Bundy and sophomore Kylah Bachman each scored a 9.875 and tied for 13th. Freshman Rachel Katz was 19th with a 9.85.
The Wolfpack's top finishers were on bars, with seniors Marlyn Madey and Leah Sabo tying for second each with a 9.9. Bachman scored a 9.85 for 12th place, while Katz and senior Cheryl Potacco both tallied a 9.825 for 18th place. Overall on bars, all five NC State scores were in the top-20.
Bachman was NC State's top performer on beam, with her score of 9.875 for third place. Goldstein had her second top-10 performance, with a 9.825 for seventh place.
Katz scored a 9.9 on vault and finished seventh to lead NC State. Senior Molly Pennington was 10th with her score of 9.875. Katz and Potacco each earned a 9.825 and were 17th.
Bachman was one of NC State's top-three performers in every event, and finished sixth in the all-around with a score of 39.425, her second-highest score this season. Madey was 10th in the all-around with a score of 39.225, now scoring over a 39.000 in all seven meets she has competed in the all-around. Sabo scored a 38.475 for 15th in the all-around.
The No. 23 NC State gymnastics team next will bid for a trip to the NCAA Championships. The Wolfpack will host the NCAA Regionals April 3, at Reynolds Coliseum.
