Led once again by junior sprinter Cullen Jones, the NC State men's swimming team placed eight times in the top-50 in five different individual events and three relays, while the women's swimming team landed a top-50 mark in the 800 freestyle relay. Jones had the ninth fastest in the 50 freestyle among college swimmers in the country, with his mark of 20.05, good for first in the ACC. He was one of two swimmers to have two times among the top-50 in multiple events, placing 31st in the 100 freestyle with a 44.71. Senior Rob Yeager placed a top-50 time in the 100 and 200 breaststroke.
The top-50 times release finalized the fall for NC State, as they head into the eight day winter training camp in Kendall, Florida before returning to the pool in early 2005 as it aims for a strong ACC finish.
"It has been an outstanding fall for both our men's and women's team," head coach Brooks Teal said. "These times are indicative of the hard work and attitude that this team has put in from day one. The program is moving in the right direction and is looking to climb the ACC and enter the national spotlight. These top-50 times are benchmarks to build off of and we are ready for an exciting spring."
Yeager, who has four times in the top-10 for the 200 breaststroke in school history, swam a 2:02.00 in the 200 breast, good for 31st in the country. His 100 breaststroke time of 56.49 was the 46th fastest among college swimmers this fall.
Junior transfer Lyle Babcock continues to make an impact, as his 200 butterfly time of 1:49.42 represented the 41st fastest nationally.
"We are happy with the way things have gone so far this season," assistant coach Chad Onken said. "We know we have work to do and a ways to go, and our focus will turn to the ACC and NCAA Championships at this point."
The men's team placed three relay times on the top-50, with the 200 free, 200 medley and 400 medley. The women also placed their 800 freestyle relay team in the top-50 with a time of 7:32.95, good for 34th nationally.
