DALTON, Ga. - Jerry Richardson shot two-over-par in the final round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate Sunday to finish 10-over for the three-day, 54-hole men's golf tournament at The Farm Golf Club (par 72, 7,010 yards). The sophomore from Burlington, N.C., led NC State to a 17th place finish in the field of 18.
Carding a 74 in the first round, Richardson slipped from 18th place to 37th after firing a 78 in the second round. Richardson birdied four holes in the final round to climb back to 10-over and tie for 32nd place.
Stephen Lewton finished one stroke behind Richardson and tied for 40th. Lewton had the team's best round of the tournament with a 73 in the second round. Garry Hill and Banks Wood both shaved four strokes off their first round totals in the second round, but a few double bogeys derailed their progress in the final round. Jace Strandberg, making his collegiate debut, had his opening round count towards the team total, but finished with the highest score on the squad.
Georgia won the tournament at 15-over and Rhys Davies from East Tennessee State captured medalist honors with a one-over total.
