RALEIGH, N.C. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has released the recipients of their 2003-2004 scholar-athlete award. Five members of the NC State softball team collected the honor, which was given to student-athletes who posted a GPA of 3.5 or better over the course of the past school year.
Sophomore's Shaina Ervin, Heather Gelbard, Laura Klem, Renee LaCroix and Jessica Willems were all named to the NFCA scholar-athlete list. Last season, all five helped to lead the Wolfpack through a successful inaugural season, finishing fifth in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 32-27 record.
The NFCA recognized over 2,700 scholar-athletes from NCAA Divisions I, II and III. Student-athletes from the NAIA, junior colleges and high schools were also included in the list.
