CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - NC State women's soccer concluded its 2004 regular season with a 3-0 loss at No. 4 ranked Virginia, Wedensday, Oct. 27. Senior co-captain Erin Griswold recorded two shots, including one goal at Klockner Stadium to lead the Wolfpack. NC State will enter Sunday's Atlantic Coast Conference first round match against Maryland with an overall record of 7-8-2 and a conference slate of 1-8-0. Virginia improved to 14-2-1 overall record, 6-2-1 in the ACC.
The Cavaliers opened the scoring in the 11th minute, when Lindsay Gusick (Livonia, Mich.) scored her team-leading 12 goal of the season. Gillian Hatch (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) threaded a ball onto the run of Noelle Keselica (Gaithersburg, Md.). Keselica then beat the charging Wolfpack keeper for the ball and crossed it in front to Gusick, who tapped it into the empty net. The Cavaliers would hold that 1-0 advantage into halftime.
In the second half, Virginia added to their lead in the 72nd minute as Shannon Foley (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) blasted a shot from 18-yards after a give and go with Sarah Huffman (Flower Mound, Texas). Huffman notched her second assist of the night on the Cavaliers' final score of the night in the 81st minute when Ariel Thompson (Salem, Va.) one-timed her cross from inside the six.
Sophomore Megan Connors made eight saves for NC State.
