Sophomore Lindsay Barwegen was impressive against the Hokies as she won three events as NC State fell 144-99 against Virginia Tech. Despite a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 yard butterfly and two wins on the 1-meter and 3-meter diving, the Wolfpack wasn't able to overcome Virginia Tech in the first action of the year for either team. Barwegen is a distance swimmer and also competes in the butterfly events, and she dominated in the pool this weekend.
Barwegen won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:22.00 and also placed first in the 500 yard freestyle, posting a time of 5:04.63. Barwegan was the team leader last year, posting the top times in each event a year ago on the season. She finished first in the 200 yard butterfly against Virginia Tech, starting a 1-2-3 sweep for NC State in the event.
Senior captains Laura Cutler (2nd, 2:07.78) and Catherine Parks (3rd, 2:09.87) finished the sweep for NC State.
Standout junior diver Molly Culberson won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions against the Hokies, as she holds the school record in both events already. Her 1-meter score of 260.70 was good enough for first, and she recorded a 305.62 to win the 3-meter.
The women will return to the pool on Oct. 28 as they host Campbell and Gardner Webb in Raleigh, N.C. at 6 pm.
