Men's Soccer Blanks Campbell 3-0

Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's soccer team recorded its second straight shutout, and even its overall record on the season, with a 3-0 win over visiting Campbell, Wednesday afternoon at Method Road. The Wolfpack (4-4, 1-1 ACC) scored all three of its goals in the second half, and outshot the Camels (1-5-1) 23-10 for the game. Sophomore Aaron King once again led the scoring for NC State with two goals, while freshman Chris Wheaton recorded his first career goal. NC State will next battle conference foe No. 7 Virginia this Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Method Road.
After battling through a scoreless first half, NC State struck first in the 51st minute. Senior Hiroki Kawase was taken down by Campbell's Brendon Berry in the Campbell penalty box, and the Pack was rewarded with a penalty kick. Sophomore Aaron King calmly netted the eventual game-winner at the 50:03 mark to give the Pack the 1-0 lead.
NC State would then go on to add two insurance goals less then a minute apart. First it was freshman Chris Wheaton heading in a Federico Peria corner kick at the 79:40 mark. The Pack's final goal came less then a minute later at the 80:34 mark. Freshman David Suffern fed a long ball to Peria, who then found Kind wide open for the breakaway. King netted his ACC leading sixth goal of the season.
Sophomore keeper Jorge Gonzalez registered his second straight shutout in goal for the Wolfpack, as he recorded four saves on the day. Campbell keeper William Holland tied his career-high with 10 saves.
With Sunday's defeat of No. 24 Clemson, NC State has now registered back-to-back wins for the first time since the 1999 season, and also recorded back-to-back shutouts for the first time since the 1997 season.
NC State will return to action this Sunday and host No. 7 Virginia at 2:00 p.m. at Method Road
