RALEIGH, N.C. - A split squad of the NC State men's tennis team will no longer make the trip to the Harvard Invitational because of Hurricane Isabel. Assistant coach Matt Halfpenny was slated to take five freshman to Harvard to kick off the 2003-04 season, but travel plans were cancelled because of the hurricane. The team was supposed to depart Thursday afternoon, and then adjusted their travel plans to Friday morning. Upon arriving at the airport at 5:30 a.m., Halfpenny and the team were greeted with blank stares from the airline's check-in counter.
The airlines at RDU International Airport flew the planes out of the triangle yesterday because of dangerously high winds and rain. The trip to Harvard was cancelled shortly thereafter because the team would miss the first round of play at the invitational.
