
Pack Takes Fourth in Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. - NC State held fast to fourth place in the Cougar Classic, played at Yeamans Hall near Charleston, with a three-round total of 908. The Pack shot a third-round score of 307, led by senior Briana Vega. Vega shot even par Tuesday and moved into sixth place overall with a total score of 221. Notre Dame took the team title with a score of 889, and Miami's Tina Miller took the individual medalist honors with a score of two-under par 214 for the tournament.
Vega's play improved from round to round after opening play on Monday with rounds of 76 and 73. Vega was one of only two players to shoot par or under on the day.
Lorraine Ballerano finished tied for 17th overall after firing a third-round score of seven-over par 79 for a total of 227 in the tournament. Fellow sophomore Molly Birmingham moved into a share of 29th with a total of 231. She was five-over par on Tuesday with a round of 77.
Leslie Stubblefield was eight-over par on the day and finished tied for 39th with a total of 235. Courtney Pomeranz shot a round of 79 to finish with sole possession of 53rd.
The team will be back in action September 26-28 at the Mason Rudolph Classic in Nashville, Tenn. The squad will send individuals to participate in the Sea Trail Intercollegiate September 27-28.
