Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's soccer team got its 2003 season off to a strong start with a 4-2 win over visiting Georgia Southern in the first game of the Wolfpack Classic Saturday afternoon at Method Road. Sophomore Aaron King finished the day with two goals and two assists, while classmate Bryant Salter and junior Martin Cini each scored a goal.
The Wolfpack jumped on the scoreboard first in the 19th minute with the sophomore trio of Federico Peria, Aaron King, and Bryant Salter all involved. Peria fed King on the right side of the 18-yard box. King faked out two defenders and found an open Salter on the far post. Salter's goal gave NC State the 1-0 lead through halftime.
Georgia Southern would start the second half on the right foot, scoring the first two goals. After Geogia Southern was awarded a free kick right outside the NC State penalty box, Tony Moffat connected for the goal at the 52:04 mark. Less then five minutes later, the Eagles struck again with Tyler Mullen heading in a Brad Mitchum corner kick to put them up 2-1.
NC State would then put the game away with three straight goals. King would score two in a row, including the game-winner. King's first goal came after junior Justin Branch crossed the ball to Salter who found King in the 74th minute. King's second goal was a penalty kick in the 80th minute. Junior Martin Cini got the Pack's goal off of Branch's and King's second assists of the day.
